Fire, Smoke, Soot. Mitigation is essential in fire and smoke damage.

Even after a fire has been put out, the damage continues. Many of the things in your home are made from synthetic materials, when burned, these synthetics create a variety of chemical reactions. For example, soot combined with moisture creates nitric acid, which is corrosive and can damage your belongings. Delays in cleanup may change the probability of a cost efficient restoration. Prolonged exposure to soot will allow further chemical damage to take place thus decreasing the level of success in restoring your possessions. Understanding the type of fire and residue produced from it is the first step in creating a plan to repair your property. Whether your property has wet smoke residue, dry smoke, fuel oil soot, protein residues or any other chemical compound we have the experience and equipment to properly identify, clean, and disinfect your property. Odor Removal

Master Clean adheres to the industry's three step process for removing smoke and odor damages. Each step is unique and most importantly necessary. Deviating from this process will often result in ineffective odor removal. Our IICRC certified technicians will help you identify the source of the odor, employ the proper cleaning method and eliminate unwanted odors caused from fire damage or any category of odors including nicotine, urine, stale air, mildew, pets, fireplace, smoke, etc.

This three step process involves the following:
  1. Spray application to all vertical and horizontal surfaces of the effected area
  2. Application of a dry or granular type odor counteract-ant
  3. Thermal fogging, this final step utilizes a solvent based deodorizer that is heated and applied as a fog. By duplicating the heat and penetration characteristics of a fire, thermal fogging effectively elimates most odors.

Contents & possessions

Master Clean recognizes the importance of addressing personal property as well as the structure. All property ranging from antiques to everyday items such as upholstery, hard furniture, electronics, and collectibles will be treated with the utmost respect and care. In most cases personal property will be addressed on the premises. If severe damage has occurred furniture and contents will be removed from the home taken into inventory, and cleaned at our facility.

Board-Ups/Roof Repair/Coverage

Master Clean is ready to assist you with all emergency roof repairs and tarp coverings to protect structure from heavy rains, wind, etc. We have a vast array of solutions for stopping leaks and damage repairs. Whether you require a minor repair or a complete roof replacement, Master Clean is standing by to provide you with excellent customer service and quality craftsmanship. Depending upon the extent and type of damage to your property, a board up may be necessary to secure your property to prevent further damage from vandalism, theft, trespassers and from the elements. Boarding your property will guarantee that any further damage or destruction will be prevented or minimized. Master Clean's board up crew will also work to stabilize the property to prevent it from collapsing to minimize any liability claims against the property owner as well as install a temporary fence to ensure the safety and security of the property. Prompt action is necessary to prevent further destruction or intrusion.
What to do:
  • Call Master Clean immediately to eliminate any further damage
  • Corrosive byproducts from fire and smoke can cause irreversible etching in as few as 72 hours. Call us immediately.
  • If the temperature is above 60 degrees, air out your home by opening windows and doors to reduce smoke odor.
  • Clean Formica, chrome, porcelain and aluminum fixtures to prevent permanent tarnishing or etching.
  • Change and cover air filter on your furnace with cheesecloth if it uses forced hot air.
  • Remove all fire-arms from property. (Ask for more advice on firearms?)
  • Tape damp cheesecloth over important documents to capture loose soot in the air.
  • Discard any open food packages.
  • If the electricity is off, clean out the refrigerator and leave doors propped open.
  • Send clothing with heavy smoke damage to a qualified restoration dry cleaner.
  • Roll up area rugs to prevent additional soiling
What not to do:
  • Do not enter structure without the proper personal protective equipment (ex. gloves, masks, safety glasses)
  • Do not touch anything. Oil from your hands can permeate upholstery, walls and woodwork, causing additional damage.
  • Do not wash walls. Incorrect cleaning could compound the soot residue.

  • Do not use electrical appliances until having them checked.
  • Do not use ceiling fixtures if the ceiling is wet.
